"We're all mad here."

Lewis CarrollAlice in Wonderland

TT - 3.12.13

Where was this photo taken?
This picture was taken at the Alice in Wonderland statue in Central Park.  It is a beautiful statue designed by José de Creeft intended for children to play on.  It depicts Alice sitting on a mushroom surrounded by other characters of the well-beloved story by Lewis Carroll, including the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter and March Hare, the mouse, Dinah, and the Cheshire Cat.  You can read more about it at the Central Park page about the statue.  I chose this particular quote from "The Jabberwocky" because it is possibly my favorite part of the entire book.  I love the nonsense, the implied meanings, and the utter confusion of the entire poem.  It's as though you can almost grasp the meaning before it suddenly changes right in front of you.

Who were you with?
Those feet down by the bottom are mine.  The big brown shoes at the top are C's.

Why was this moment so important to capture?
This picture is important for a few reasons.  First of all, C and I had just spent the entire day touring around the city, beginning way down south at Battery Park, walking across the Brooklyn Bridge for brunch, and then spending the entire afternoon walking through the Park and crossing things off of our list of sites to see.  The weather was gorgeous in New York on Saturday and C and I had so much fun exploring.  I love this photo because it looks like C and I have gone through the nonsense to end up meeting each other, toe-to-toe.

More stories are to come about New York and my experiences there (and possibly gushing about how much I loved the city and halfway kind of hope to find a job there after graduation...Eep!)
